Our Tea Varieties
At Royal Empire, we produce three primary types of tea—Black Tea, Green Tea, and Oolong Tea—each offering a distinct flavor profile and crafted with care to suit different tastes.
1 Black Tea: This is the most popular tea worldwide and comes in two varieties:
- Orthodox (Leaf) Tea: Traditionally crafted, this variety preserves the natural shape of the leaves, offering a rich and complex flavor.
- CTC (Crush, Tear, Curl) Tea: Made through a modern process that creates granular tea, CTC is known for its robust taste and is perfect for a strong brew.
Green Tea: A favorite among health-conscious tea drinkers, Green Tea is minimally processed, preserving its antioxidants and light, refreshing taste.
Oolong Tea: Known for its delicate balance between black and green tea, Oolong undergoes partial oxidation, giving it a smooth, rich flavor with floral undertones.
Quality Grades of Tea
Once the tea is processed, it is sifted into four distinct quality grades:
- Leaf Tea: The largest leaves with the most intact shape, offering a full-bodied flavor.
- Broken Tea: Smaller leaves that create a slightly stronger and brisker brew.
- Fannings: Smaller particles of tea, ideal for quicker brewing with a bold taste.
- Dust: The finest particles, often used in tea bags, providing a quick and robust cu
Leaf Grade Designations
On premium tea packets, you may notice abbreviations like OP, BOP, or FOP. These mysterious letters are leaf grade designations used to indicate the tea’s sieve quality or size. While they don’t influence the flavor or character, they help define the leaf type—providing an additional layer of detail for the discerning tea enthusiast.
